Arce: Roman Baths, Palacio and Landscape at the Itoitz Reservoir

Roman history, medieval architecture and waterside landscapes stand side by side in Arce. The archaeological site of Artzi served as a road station from the late 1st century BC. Culture

Santa María de Arce is a late Romanesque rural church from the late 12th century. Its exterior is decorated with a series of corbels; the figures depict activities such as playing the harp and carrying a barrel. Santa María de Arce lies in a landscape shaped by the Río Urrobi and dominated by the Sierra de Labia.

The Palacio de Arce is a historic building from the 16th century that was restored by the Government of Navarre. The restoration reconstructed its medieval wooden gallery and medieval square. The Palacio de Arce is located in the protected surroundings of the Church of Santa María, which was recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) in 1983.

History

The Roman baths of Arce/Artzi were opened to the public after being consolidated and converted into a museum. In their museum form, they offer information panels and a 3D reconstruction of the building. Playa de Arce/Artze is located in the northern area of the Itoitz Reservoir in the Concejo de Arce. Playa de Arce has 89 spaces, including 3 spaces for people with reduced mobility.
