Uriz preserves two palace towers which, together with the church tower, shape the silhouette of the village.

Culture

Uritz is considered the place of origin of the knightly lineage named after the village, which rendered important services to the Navarrese monarchy in the 13th and 14th centuries.

The two historic towers of Uritz are square buildings dating from the 13th and 15th centuries, respectively. Each of the towers of Uritz bears the coat of arms of the Uriz lineage or of the valley's merino, respectively.

The church of San Saturnino originated in the Romanesque period of the 12th century and was altered in the 16th century. Its medieval tower is considered one of the largest in the valley. The church houses a Gothic depiction of the Virgin and Child from the 13th century.

Uritz's main street preserves portals with pointed arches and mullioned windows, characteristic of the village's historic noble houses. At Errotaldea, on the right bank of the Urrobi, are the remains of the village's former grain mill.

When reading the village's townscape, you can pay attention to the age of the buildings, coats of arms and architectural forms; these three perspectives help organise the historic details without reducing them to a single period.

Landscape

Uritz lies on a plain at an altitude of 625 metres; its towers rise above the houses. Uritz lies on the banks of the Urrobi River.

The surroundings of Uritz include grain fields as well as woodland areas with pines and oaks.

The themes of culture, landscape and hiking can be deliberately considered side by side when planning, depending on whether the focus is on local history, the natural environment or physical activity. These aspects can also be given different weighting during a stay.

Hiking

The Calzada romana de Arce-Artzibar route leads to the Urrobi River and to Uritz, where hikers can see well-preserved fortified tower houses.

The La Calzada Romana del Pirineo hiking trail is marked with purple-and-white signs and has no steep climbs along almost its entire length, making it suitable for hiking with the family.

Those who wish to compare routes can consider their connection with the village and river on the one hand, and their markings and elevation profile on the other, separately.

When comparing a holiday apartment in Uriz, you can review the travel dates, room category and cancellation policies of the offers side by side. This information provides an objective basis for comparison between accommodations; your choice can be guided separately by your own priorities regarding culture, landscape or hiking. The information on the travel period, room category and cancellation policies can therefore be considered as separate comparison points, while the choice of holiday apartment can independently be guided by your personal priorities regarding culture, landscape or hiking. This keeps practical accommodation questions and the content of the stay clearly separate from each other.

Hotel Rural de Úriz offers its guests breakfast and dinner exclusively. It focuses on products from small producers in the valley as well as regional products from short supply chains and with a zero-kilometre focus.
