Culture

The Iglesia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora is a 16th-century parish church located on the slope of one of the hills surrounding Villalbilla. In 2011, it was recognised in the “Monument” category as a Bien de Interés Cultural.

The Lavadero of Villalbilla is a traditional 17th-century building. It formerly served as a spring, a watering place for livestock and a public washhouse.

Villalbilla’s patron saint festival, the Fiesta del Cristo de la Guía, takes place around 3 May. The Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo de la Guía organises religious ceremonies such as a solemn mass, procession, offering and triduum, as well as leisure activities including sports, music, dancing, children’s workshops and fireworks.

Primitiva Complutum is the archaeological site of the first Roman city, founded around the 1st century BC on a hilltop above the Henares Valley. An aerial interpretation of Primitiva Complutum revealed an urban structure covering more than 30 hectares, with public buildings and the region’s only Roman theatre.

Nature and Trails

Numerous routes and sections are created from Plaza Mayor in Villalbilla throughout the year due to their popularity.

Villalbilla’s natural heritage project comprises five videos about trails that cross the entire municipality and invite visitors to respect and enjoy nature while engaging in various leisure activities.

Route 1 is called “San Juan del Viso–Mirador del Salto del Cura” and is considered a very easy route suitable for all ages and every season; in summer, you should avoid the hottest times of day.

Route 2, “Los Hueros–Parque de Los Cerros”, is part of the five-route project covering Villalbilla’s nature routes and is recommended for walkers and cycle tourists. GPS tracks can be downloaded for this route and followed using suitable route apps.

Other Places

Additional destinations in the area include Navas Del Rey, Garganta De Los Montes, Torrejón De Ardoz, Collado-Villalba, Cercedilla, El Escorial, Valdemaqueda and San Sebastián De Los Reyes.
