The Puente Mocha hike is an 8-kilometre circular route of moderate difficulty from the El Canto de La Gallina campsite, leading back through the town centre of Valdemaqueda.

Prados de Hoyo is a 6-kilometre, moderately difficult, linear guided hike in Valdemaqueda with 250 metres of cumulative elevation gain. This hike leads through Valdemaqueda’s pine forests and presents features of resin extraction as a forestry activity in the Sierra Oeste. The Valdemaqueda–Arroyo de la Hoz route follows the Río Cofio to Puente Mocha, climbs up to Risco de Valdeparaiso, then follows the Arroyo de la Hoz and continues to Risco de Valdecatones.

Buildings and history

Puente Mocha is 55 metres long and crosses the Río Cofio on the route connecting Valdemaqueda with Villaescusa. It has four semicircular arches that rise directly from the ground.

The parish church of San Lorenzo Martir was built in the 16th century as a rectangular single-nave building and has been restored. Its Gothic chancel and Renaissance portal, which was separated from the modern masonry as an archaeological reference, combine different architectural periods.

The Viaducto de Zarzalón is a stone railway arch structure on the Madrid–Ávila line, dates from 1863 and is under integral protection. It is almost 90 metres long and reaches a maximum height of 29 metres at its centre.

The Ermita de Ntra. Señora de los Remedios has 17th-century Baroque architectural elements, a single-nave interior and a preserved image of the Virgen de los Remedios.

A cultural tour through Valdemaqueda passes three public fountains and reaches the Fuente de la Fragua. The Fuente de la Fragua is the oldest public fountain in Valdemaqueda.

The former Palacio de Medinaceli was a castle-palace of the House of Medinaceli; only the portal and coat of arms from the former building remain, dating from before 1870. In Valdemaqueda, a glass factory was acquired in the 16th and 17th centuries that was responsible for producing the stained-glass windows in the ambulatory of Segovia Cathedral.

The 2026 patron-saint festivities in honour of the Virgen de los Remedios begin in Valdemaqueda on Friday, 14 August. A romería in honour of the Virgen de los Remedios will also take place in Valdemaqueda in 2026.
