Nature and Landscape

Dehesa Boyal is regarded as a historic site of high ecological value in Soto del Real. Its diverse flora and fauna include, among other species, a significant colony of white storks and black starlings.

Parque del Río is a former livestock enclosure between the town of Soto del Real and the Cañada Real and has both natural and scenic value. Close to the centre of Soto del Real, it is suitable for walking, relaxing and observing the riverside vegetation.

The Anillo Verde route follows the Cañada Real Segoviana and, along a section of around 2 km, passes several amphibian ponds and white stork nesting sites. The El Collado de la Dehesilla route reaches the Cañada Real Segoviana; after about 800 metres, it leads to the Arroyo del Mediano, which it crosses via a bridge, and then to Dehesa Boyal, which it circles along a stone wall.

The different route profiles and landscape features allow comparisons based on the character of the route and its nature theme.

The Sotogüeña Bird Festival has taken place annually since it was founded in 2021, bringing together birdwatchers, families and visitors.

Culture and History

At the Iglesia Parroquial de la Inmaculada Concepción, a 15th-century tower retains its historic appearance. The present building combines architectural styles that developed between the 16th and 18th centuries. The church also houses a Baroque high altarpiece from 1749 made of unpolychromed walnut wood.

The Puente Medieval crosses the Arroyo Chozas and connects Plaza de la Villa with the church area in the historic centre of Soto del Real. It is made of local granite and has a single slightly pointed, donkey-back-shaped arch whose form corresponds to models from the 12th to the 15th centuries.

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the patron saint of Soto del Real, was built in 1954 on an estate known as “Peña Mingazo”. It stands on a small plateau and offers an unobstructed panoramic view of Soto del Real and the surrounding mountain landscape.

Festivals and Tradition

San Isidro is traditionally celebrated in Soto del Real on 15 May as the feast day of the patron saint of cattle breeders. The celebration includes a procession from the Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción through the town to Parque del Río, where bollos preñaós are distributed.

Soto del Real celebrates its Fiestas Patronales in honour of the Virgen del Rosario on the first Sunday in August. The celebrations extend over the days before and after it.

The traditional Romería to the hermitage in honour of the Virgen del Rosario takes place on 15 August and includes a communal meal of potatoes and meat. The Nuestra Señora la Virgen del Rosario festival on 7 October includes a mass and a procession through Soto del Real.
