Tres Cantos: Nature, Water and Culture

Valdeloshielos is a natural area in the immediate vicinity of Tres Cantos city centre and is of high ecological value, with rich biodiversity.

Holm oaks and broom are the predominant vegetation there; Valdeloshielos is also a natural habitat for wild boar, and birds of various species are easy to observe.

Parks and Gardens

Parque Central covers 45 hectares and features a large artificial lake inhabited by various fish and bird species. The Jardín Temático there comprises twelve different types of gardens, including rose gardens, palm groves, beds of herbaceous plants, climbing plants, bamboo, conifers, aromatic plants and a rock garden.

Parque Este is a 60-hectare forest park that runs along the wall of Monte de Viñuelas. It has small paths for walking and a cycle path running around its entire perimeter.

Routes and Activities

The Ecoturismo por Tres Cantos initiative presents five environmentally focused routes for hiking and cycling; they are between five and 21 kilometres long.

An 11-kilometre family route follows the third section of the Camino de Santiago de Madrid along the Arroyo Tejada through gentle pastureland to Colmenar Viejo.

Tres Cantos Bike Park offers several purpose-built BMX courses with jumps, ramps and bends for jumping and trick riding.

The artificial lake in Parque Central is used by the Club de Piragüismo for courses in canoe polo, stand-up paddleboarding, paddle surfing and canoeing.

Connections and Routes

The 24-kilometre RL12 linear route of the Arco Verde connects Hoyo de Manzanares with the Valdeloshielos area in Tres Cantos via Puente de la Marmota.

Tres Cantos railway station is located in the municipality of the same name and is served by Cercanías Madrid line C-4. Along the Arco Verde RL12 route, Tres Cantos station is less than 300 metres east of the Valdeloshielos car park.

Environmental Education and Culture

The facilities of Aula de Medio Ambiente Las Vaquerizas are intended to host exhibitions, courses, conferences, seminars and workshops on nature, botany, fauna, the protection of natural resources and sustainability.

A venue with 135 seats hosts concerts and recitals; rehearsals and lessons of the municipal music school, as well as rehearsals by the Coral Santa Teresa choir, also take place there.

A venue with 385 seats offers performances from various areas of the performing arts throughout the year, including theatre, dance and concerts.

The exhibition hall has been dedicated to the Tres Cantos painter Juan María Vendrell Sanromá since 19 December 2001.
