Discover Las Rozas de Madrid: Nature, Culture and Holiday Rentals

Almost half of the municipality of Las Rozas lies within the Parque Regional de la Cuenca Alta del Manzanares. Parks, tracks, livestock trails, paths and wooded areas are ideal for walking, cycling, sports and relaxation.

Nature and Landscape

At Embalse Molino, a recreational reservoir, a colony of cormorants can be observed all year round. The Centro de Medio Ambiente La Talaverona features urban gardens, an arboretum, educational trails, outdoor classrooms, composting areas, and spaces for workshops and educational activities. La Talaverona also offers an accessible walk through gardens, wooded areas and educational spaces.

History and Culture

The Canal del Guadarrama is a relic of 18th-century engineering, connected with the original landscape, the forest and the river course. Part of the canal in Dehesa de Navalcarbón has been designed as an artificial stream and can be explored on foot or by bicycle.

Puente del Retamar was built between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, formed part of the Camino Real from Madrid to El Escorial, and has seven semicircular arches. The area around the bridge is easily accessible, well signposted and has free parking; there are also paths for walking and cycling.

The Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel was built in the first half of the 16th century and is considered the oldest and most distinctive building in the municipality of Las Rozas. Next to Dehesa de Navalcarbón stands the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Retamar, dedicated to the patron saint of Las Rozas; her veneration dates back to the 14th century.

Every year, many residents gather at the chapel for a festive celebration with music, outdoor meals, dancing and activities for all age groups. The Bunkers de la Dehesa circular route passes around ten forts and bunkers preserved as relics of the Spanish Civil War. The Sendero LR-09 Bunkers de la Dehesa is an easy circular route of approximately 1.9 kilometres, with a walking time of around 50 minutes, and is described as suitable for children.

Museums and Leisure

The Museo de la Selección Española presents the history of the Spanish national football team over more than 100 years. It covers the senior national team, the under-21 team, and the Olympic, women's, futsal and beach soccer teams.

A small railway museum in Las Rozas displays historic locomotives and working models; AFEMAT organises free guided tours. A historic railway district developed in the 20th century in connection with the expansion of rail transport and is now considered one of Spain's best-preserved railway villages.

Karting Carlos Sainz in Las Rozas has a 450-metre track with two levels, bridges and challenging corners. Madrid Fly offers the opportunity to learn about and experience flying in a wind tunnel after a brief preparation session and under the constant supervision of flight instructors.

Events and Local Dates

El Rastro de Las Rozas takes place every third Saturday of the month at Bulevar de Camilo José Cela and offers vintage items, antiques and collectibles. Every year, Las Rozas hosts the Feria del Libro on Calle Real, with book stalls and opportunities to meet writers.

On July nights, venues such as Parque 1º de Mayo, Auditorio del Parque París and Dehesa de Navalcarbón host open-air cinema as well as theatre and concerts. The Fiesta de la bici – Memorial Mª Isabel Clavero takes place every November, with children and their families cycling through Las Rozas. For two weekends in November, Las Rozas becomes a gastronomic attraction.

Getting There and Choosing a Location

Las Rozas has three Cercanías commuter rail stations, serving the town centre, the shopping centre area and the district of Las Matas respectively. Buses from Madrid reach Las Rozas from the Moncloa transport hub; in addition, line 561 and its variants run from the Aluche transport hub, with Las Rozas as their final destination.

Additional location options include Las Matas. Other destinations are Vaciamadrid, Valdeolmos, Manjirón, Canencia, Villanueva De La Cañada, Collado-Villalba and Las Herreras.
