Valdeolmos – Trails, Nature and Festivals

Route 2 begins in Valdeolmos and is 9.8 kilometres long. After passing Valdeolmos, the Arroyo de Calderón is known as the Arroyo Paeque. A path begins behind the Iglesia de Valdeolmos at the turning area where the buses turn around.

Trails

The Valdeolmos-Alalpardo trail network comprises four signposted circular trails covering a total of 34 kilometres. The four routes can be used on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Since mid-May, the municipality has had eight information boards featuring various routes; for each route, the distance, elevation gain and difficulty level are indicated there. East of the Comunidad de Madrid, in the municipality of Valdeolmos-Alalpardo, there is a 100-hectare holm oak forest considered to be a primary or primeval forest.

Culture and History

The Iglesia de Valdeolmos has Romanesque origins and, in its original form, dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. It consists of a single-nave building with walls made of brick and rubble masonry. A Gothic chapel dedicated to Cristo de la Columna is attached to the Iglesia de Valdeolmos. Festivals

On the second Saturday in May, Valdeolmos celebrates the Virgen del Amor Hermoso with a solemn mass, refreshments, a procession, an auction of carrying platforms and sceptres, and dancing. On the second Saturday in August, the Cristo de la Columna festival follows, with a solemn mass and a procession. For four days, there are dances, bullfighting events and fireworks, before the festival ends on Wednesday with a caldereta for residents and visitors.
