Historic bridges give Canencia a distinctive character. The Puente Canto is a bridge dating from the 14th or 15th century over the Canencia Stream; located 50 metres from the confluence of the Canencia and Ortigal streams, it has two asymmetrical arches and a viewpoint above the larger arch.

Culture

The Puente Cadenas is a narrow bridge with a single, slightly pointed arch over the Canencia Stream. It is located near an old mill and surrounded by lush riverside vegetation.

On Easter Monday, the Fiesta del Hornazo combines an outdoor meal with traditional games. The patron-saint festivities in honour of the Virgen del Castillo take place in the second week of October and include religious events, bullfighting events, folk dances and traditional games.

Canencia lies in a small north-facing valley crossed by the stream of the same name, which is a tributary of the Lozoya. Around the town centre, meadows, vegetable gardens and pastureland alternate, while the higher areas are home to oak forests and stands of Scots pine.

The Puerto de Canencia is a 1,524-metre-high pass in the Sierra de la Morcuera between the municipalities of Canencia and Miraflores de la Sierra, a natural area with numerous Scots pines.

The Área Recreativa del Puerto de Canencia recreational area offers a large car park, a leisure area and a spring for enjoying time in nature.

The Puerto de Canencia is considered one of the classic passes for road cycling in the Community of Madrid.
