Nature

Valdeavero’s natural landscape includes scrubland with broom, gorse and thyme. Wet meadows with tall grass form narrow strips along the banks of the Arroyo Camarmilla. Willows, poplars and elms grow in the riverside forests. The natural areas also include paths suitable for walking.

Culture

The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Valdeavero is a 16th-century building; its bell tower was rebuilt in the 19th century. The church’s Rosario Chapel is notable for its wrought-iron grille and polychrome wood carving. The church also houses devotional images of the Santísimo Cristo del Sudor and Jesús Nazareno.

The Palacio del Marqués de Campoflorido was built in the 18th century. Its façade has a portal with a coat of arms, and a gallery connected the palace with the church. Valdeavero’s old dovecote is a two-storey building from the 18th century and one of the few surviving structures of its kind in the Comunidad de Madrid.

The Ermita de la Soledad is a rectangular religious hermitage or sanctuary from the 18th century with a pitched roof. The cemetery and the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Chapel date from the 19th century and are located on the Paseo de la Ermita next to the Ermita de la Soledad. The chapel is a small neo-Gothic building near the cemetery entrance.

The Antiguo Lavadero is located on the left bank of the Arroyo de la Morcuera near the Fuente Vieja and can be reached from the road to Villanueva de la Torre via the Camino Viejo a Meco. It is a former open-air washing facility with two stepped rectangular basins: one was used for soaping and the other for rinsing.

Puente de la Zarza is a three-arch bridge on the M-119 between Valdeavero and Camarma de Esteruelas. It is made of limestone blocks joined with lime-and-sand mortar; its three arches are flattened semicircular arches with internal barrel vaults made of clay bricks.

Festivities

The festivities in honour of the Santísimo Cristo del Sudor take place on 13 and 14 September. Religious events as well as entertainment, bullfighting-related and cultural activities are held on the nearest weekend.
