Culture and History
Construction of the Iglesia de Santa María Magdalena de Ciempozuelos began at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. In the 17th century, the church was expanded with the construction of a Baroque brick tower. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo has a simple Baroque façade with elements of classical architecture. Its dome above the altar is decorated with religious paintings from 1707.
The Convento de Santa Clara is the oldest religious foundation in Ciempozuelos and dates back to 1609. The Iglesia de Las Clarisas displays a simple Baroque architectural style from the first half of the 17th century on its exterior façade. Red brick contrasts there with white stone around the frames and lintels of the portals.
The Congregation Museum of the Oblates preserves the room of the founder, Antonia María de Oviedo Schöntal. In the left section of the church, the Panteón de los Fundadores can be visited, with the sarcophagi of San Benito Menni, Sor Josefa Recio and Sor Angustias Giménez.
The Ciempozuelos Bell Beaker vessel belonged to a group of ceramics, including a casserole and a bowl; they were discovered in 1894 and 1895 during the construction of the road from Cuesta de la Reina to San Martín de la Vega, now the M-404, in Ciempozuelos. The vessel is currently on display at the Museo Arqueológico Nacional.
The Casa de la Cultura houses a permanent exhibition on the Bronze Age and “El Vaso Campaniforme”. Another permanent exhibition on Las Salinas Espartinas can be visited at the Biblioteca Municipal Almudena Grandes, Calle Colegiata 3 in Ciempozuelos.
