The Santa María la Real temple was built on the orders of King García Sánchez III. The complex was completed in 1052 and at that time became a bishop's seat and royal pantheon. Culture

The Camino Francés includes a 21.440-kilometre stage from Nájera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada. During the San Juan celebrations on 24 June and San Pedro on 29 June, Nájera hosts the historic Las Vueltas tradition: people dance along the promenade to the square and ask for water.
