Culture

The parish church of Asunción de Nuestra Señora in Geria is a Gothic stone building from the 17th century with a single-nave layout. The Ermita Cristo del Humilladero is a stone building erected in the 16th century with a square floor plan.

Festivals and Customs

On 3 February, the celebration in honour of Saint Blaise in Geria includes a mass, a procession, the Entradilla dance and wine offered by the municipal council. During the traditional Pedida de la Rosquilla on 4 February, young men from Geria walk through the town with music and ask for Rosquillas de palo, cured chorizo, wine and liqueur; the food and drinks are then sampled in the schoolyards. During Holy Week, at the procession of the Encounter on Maundy Thursday in Geria, the Santo Cristo del Humilladero, carried on the shoulders from the chapel, and the Virgen de los Dolores are brought together. In May, the tradition of Santa Cruz in Geria involves going to the meadow next to the chapel for a snack and enjoying the good weather. On 15 May, San Isidro Labrador is celebrated in Geria; the local farmers take part in a procession with the saint, and the fields are blessed. In the week before 15 August, Geria holds a cultural week with exhibitions, theatre performances, sports competitions and a communal paella. In recent years, a public Matanza was held in Geria between the end of December and the beginning of January, during which pigs were singed and butchered according to the old tradition, and the products made from them were sampled among those present.

Nature

The archaeological site of La Mosquila, also known as Fuente de La Mosquila, is located in the municipality of Geria southwest of the town, on the border with the neighbouring municipality of Simancas. At the confluence of the Pisuerga and Duero near Las Ventas de Geria, the water of the Pisuerga is calmed by the Pesquera de Mazariegos.
