The Iglesia de La Natividad in Duruelo combines Romanesque, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical elements and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural) of special cultural interest on 24 September 1982. Those wishing to get to know Duruelo through its culture can view its variety of styles and its dated heritage status as two distinct perspectives.

Culture

A small architectural detail catches the eye at the Iglesia de La Natividad: its apse has three small slit windows. Duruelo is also home to a recently restored shoeing stock (Potro de Herrar), which forms part of its preserved ethnographic heritage. The Fuente de la Hontanilla is also part of Duruelo’s preserved ethnographic heritage.

For cultural orientation, church architecture and ethnographic evidence can be considered separately. This leaves room to perceive the different forms of cultural heritage individually, without reducing them to a single historical or thematic perspective.

Nature

The banks of the Río Duratón in the Siguero–Duruelo section are classified as Sites of Community Importance. When exploring the area on site, the surroundings of Duruelo and the wider regional area can be distinguished as two different spatial references.

La Cebollera, a mountain, is located in the surroundings of Duruelo. In the wider regional area around Duruelo are El Mirador, a viewpoint; Lobo, a mountain; Alto de Calahorra, a mountain; Santia, a peak; and Hoces del rio Duraton, a park.

The different designations open up various ways of viewing the landscape. Those wishing to organise their travel interests can distinguish between riverbank, mountain, peak, viewpoint and park as separate thematic reference points.

Routes and Activities

The Ruta en BTT del Alto Duratón reaches Duruelo after leaving the Senda del Sabinar de Casla and descending towards the Caslilla. For those who do not wish to cycle the entire route, the Ruta en BTT del Alto Duratón includes a return route between Cerezo de Abajo and Duruelo.

For your own planning, you can first distinguish between cycling and hiking as different forms of activity. The Ruta Del Río Duratón is connected to Duruelo and the abandoned settlement of Fresneda de Sepúlveda.
