Casla: Holiday Apartments, Hiking Trails and Starry Skies
Nature
Casla comes into focus with two trails of very different lengths. The Senda del Caslilla is a 7.10 km hiking route through the Parque Natural Sierra Norte del Guadarrama and connects Sigueruelo and Casla. The Senda de los Pastores is 154.90 kilometres long and runs through Casla. Their different lengths offer you an initial objective basis for comparison; the two routes can be considered separately according to their scope.
The Senda del Caslilla leads through riverside landscapes with limestone escarpments, gorges and caves, including the Cueva del Ranchón. At the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama near Casla, there are limestone-shaped karst landscapes with caves, rock overhangs, sinkholes and underground rivers. The Río Caslilla rises within the municipality of Casla. For your planning, you can read the nature information according to the route, rock formations, caves and connection with bodies of water.
The Senda de los Pastores is certified by the Starlight Foundation for the quality of its night sky. The municipality of Casla is also home to the Mirador de estrellas, which belongs to the network of stargazing viewpoints in the province of Segovia. For your personal travel planning, you can assess the route length and the sky theme independently of one another. For an initial comparison, the clear differences in length, landscape form, cultural connection and sky theme are helpful. You can place individual topics side by side and align your personal planning with the focus that interests you most; no fixed order is required for this. Even within the nature topics, you can distinguish between the route, landforms, watercourse and night sky.
Culture
In the centre of Casla stands the Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol; unusually, its presbytery faces north. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Estrella, Casla’s patron saint church, stands among juniper trees and elms at the foot of the Sierra. Until around 1665, the Virgin associated with the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Estrella was venerated as Nuestra Señora del Estepar.
Casla’s patron saint celebrations in honour of the Virgen de la Estrella take place every year from 9 to 14 September; during this time, the municipality offers residents and visitors an extensive cultural programme. The Cañada Real Soriana Occidental runs through the municipality of Casla and is evidence of its transhumant past. When classifying the cultural aspects, you can distinguish between annual festivities, sacred sites and transhumant heritage.
Geographical Location
Casla is located on the N-110. For travel planning, this clearly named road connection complements the information on nature, routes and culture without mixing the individual topics together.
This information provides an objective basis for your next choice; you can consider the different local and route-related topics separately.
