San Pelayo de Guareña places the Cuevas Eremíticas at the centre of an archaeological complex: artificially carved hollows are located in a rocky outcrop covering several hundred square metres. The complex includes individually created cells and rock hermitages that were used as dwellings for monks living in isolation.

The Iglesia de San Pelayo de la Guareña is one of the selected churches in the north-western part of the province of Salamanca. In front of the church’s main façade, near a fountain, stands a mulberry tree consisting of three trunks and enclosed by a low stone wall.

The Sendero Cordel de Merinas hiking trail begins in Ledesma and follows a section of the former livestock trail to San Pelayo de Guareña. The Catedrales Vivas route takes travellers, among other places, to the mulberry tree described in San Pelayo de Guareña as the largest in Spain.
