Ledrada – Hiking Trails, Nature and Local History

In Ledrada, the summit of Los Hermanitos offers panoramic views of the Sierra de Béjar and the Sierra de Francia. From Ledrada, you can hike along the route through the Valle de Sangusín.

Nature and Trails

The landscape around Ledrada belongs to the LIC and ZEPA protected-area networks. Among other species, foxes, wildcats, beech martens, weasels, hoopoes, green woodpeckers, kingfishers and birds of prey can be observed in this landscape.

The hiking trails in Ledrada are marked and signposted with the route name, total distance, difficulty level and elevation difference. The RL4 – Ruta de los Secretos de Ledrada leads to the former railway station, where the station buildings and the railway track can be seen; a longer section of the former railway line from Ledrada, including the former station, forms part of the Vía Verde de la Plata Salamanca-Sur.

The RL5 – Ruta de los Sabores de Ledrada passes through a natural area along the Arroyo de Sangusín to San Medel and past plots and farms where cattle and pigs are raised. Culture and Local Life

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Miguel in Ledrada is predominantly Romanesque in style. A distinctive building in the village is the Torre del Reloj: the square granite tower has ashlar masonry at all four corners, three slightly tapering sections, a clock in the third section and a hipped roof with a bell structure. The clock's weight-driven mechanism was installed in 1891.

The Ermita de la Virgen de la Yedra is a small granite-built religious structure with ashlar masonry at the corners, two side buttresses, a tiled roof over a wooden structure and a porch supported by four granite columns. A statue of the Virgin Mary on a rock along the path to the Ermita de la Virgen de la Yedra is visible from the access road to Ledrada.

The winding streets of Ledrada preserve 19th-century inscriptions on door and window lintels. Numerous crosses, mostly of religious origin, stand in Ledrada and the surrounding area.

Las Barrancas, also known as Ledrada's Plaza Mayor, was and remains a centre of local life. Annual Quintos celebrations, performances by puppeteers, the announcement of fair prizes and the presentation of festival queens and ladies of honour took place there.

At the Matanza de Ledrada in February 2026, residents and people close to them gathered in Ledrada's square. The festivities included a tribute to the Iberian pig, the distribution of sweets and aguardiente, the traditional butchering of the animal and a communal meal.
