The sacred history of Buenavista includes an altarpiece made by Bernardo de Carvajal in the late 17th century, which was transferred to the town’s parish church in 1879. The Buenavista altarpiece is considered characteristic of its period and shows the influence of the Churriguera style.

Culture

Buenavista’s origins date back to the medieval repopulation carried out by the kings of León. During its medieval foundation period, the town was called Bozigas; in the 15th century, the settlement was known as Poçilgas. In 1910, the town changed its traditional name from Pocilgas to Buenavista.

The main town features traditional stone buildings. The bell tower of Buenavista is square and has a tiled roof. The Santa María de Buenavista church served as the venue for a performance combining theatre, music and poetry. The Santa María church in Buenavista opened its doors for a cultural event linking historical heritage and artistic creation.
