La Vellés: Church, History and Festivals

In the centre of La Vellés stands Santa Ana Church. A roof restoration project for Santa Ana Church in La Vellés, with a budget of 205,000 euros, was documented as part of the 2022–2023 church agreement.

Culture and History

In 1924, a chapel was built in the cemetery of La Vellés by Cardinal Almaraz, who came from La Vellés and wanted to bury his relatives there. Parts of the walls and a portal of the former Ermita de Nuestra Señora de La Antigua have been preserved in the same cemetery; this portal forms the entrance to the cemetery.

A manuscript from 1604 to 1629 reports that a new stone church was begun in La Vellés. The report cites the older parish church, which was located far outside the village, as well as the paths, which were difficult to walk in winter, as the reasons.

Festivals and Traditions

The Fiestas de San Juan Bautista in La Vellés took place from 20 to 23 June, with a programme for all age groups. The programme included a communal dinner and a bonfire in Plaza Alcalde Carlos Lobato, which was scheduled to burn from 10:00 p.m. The dates mentioned combine communal programme items with a clearly named location in the village.

The water attractions in the festival programme also received a new schedule: they were moved from the originally planned Thursday, 27 August, at 6:30 p.m. to Monday at 11:00 a.m. The originally planned venue remained unchanged. Food and Traditions

In the Circuito de Fiestas de la Matanza sponsored by the Diputación de Salamanca, La Vellés was scheduled as the venue for the Fiesta de la Matanza Tradicional on 20 December 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

For Saturday, 27 December, La Vellés was scheduled as the venue in the Circuito de Fiestas de la Matanza Tradicional of the province of Salamanca; the programme included tastings, gastronomic demonstrations and other traditional activities.
