Nature

The Playa de Carnaceda route follows the banks of the Tormes in Ledesma and partly runs through the Natura 2000 site protected as the LIC Riberas del río Tormes y afluentes. It passes Playa de Carnaceda and ends at the former Aceña de Pedro Álvaro watermill.

The Way of Saint Francis of Assisi crosses the medieval Puente Mocho bridge near Ledesma into the province of Salamanca. It then runs southeast through oak groves and areas dedicated to bull breeding as far as Ciudad Rodrigo.

Culture

The Church of Santa María la Mayor in Ledesma is considered one of the outstanding examples of Hispano-Flemish Gothic in the province of Salamanca and was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 2002. The church also contains the tomb of Don Sancho, a grandson of Alfonso X of Castile.

The Bletisa Centre in Ledesma presents the history of the town from prehistoric times to the modern era, using audiovisual and interactive elements.

Much of Ledesma's town wall is made of granite. Of its eight historic gates, only the Puerta de los Mártires gate remains today; it is also known as San Nicolás and Caldereros.

The Puente de Peñaserracín bridge in Ledesma may be of Roman origin. It spans the Rivera de Fuentes Luengas, is 51 metres long and 3.75 metres wide, and is still passable.

Festivals and Gastronomy

The major Corpus Christi celebrations take place in Ledesma in June. They last seven days and include the bull runs known as “Espantos”.
