Filiel: Petroglyphs, Gold Traces and Teleno

Filiel combines impressive landscapes with traces reaching far back into the past. At Peña Fadiel, a group of larger slate rocks bears prehistoric petroglyphs; it is considered one of the best examples of its kind in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The rock carvings include a detailed depiction of labyrinth-like motifs.

Culture and History

On the slope of Valleprado, La Corona-Castro preserves its layout, a ditch, and remnants of a wall built from mortar and stone. The Ermita de San Antonio is documented as early as 1732 and has a 17th-century altarpiece, probably attributed to the school of Becerra. Among the distinctive traces in the landscape are Las Llagunas: these ponds were created around 18 centuries ago through gold mining in the area.

A second route presents another chapter in the history of the landscape: the Yacimientos auríferos del Duerna route reaches Filiel along the Arroyo Totaniel.
