Quincoces de Yuso – Medieval Traces and Paths

With its medieval bridge, Quincoces de Yuso preserves a structure that for centuries enabled people to cross the irregular course of the Jerea, a tributary of the Ebro. This detail makes the introduction to the history of the village unusually vivid.

Culture

Romanesque architectural remains can be found in several places in the parish church of Santa María: in the portal, the baptismal font and a reused inscription. The portal has three simple round-arch archivolts and an archivolt with a rounded-moulding profile. The archivolts rest on an impost decorated with a cube frieze above the jambs.

A second perspective on the history of the village leads to the Torre de Quincoces de Yuso. It belonged to the Salazar family and was one of the fortifications demolished in the 14th century during conflicts between noble families. The Torre is a medieval tower with a square floor plan, loopholes and coats of arms bearing the Velasco arms. The Torre has since been converted into a residential building.

Regional Tradition

The Feria Agrícola, Ganadera, Artesana y de la Patata de Losa has its own seasonal character: it was traditionally held on the third Saturday in November in Quincoces de Yuso.
