Culture and Tradition

Francos brings together several different cultural heritage sites within a small thematic area. The Capela de San Bartolomeu is a cultural heritage site of artistic interest in Francos; the chapel has the conservation status “integral conservation”. The Eira de hórreos is also an ethnographic cultural heritage site and one of the cultural and historical destinations in Francos. This group is complemented by the Muíño de Adelino Blanco, another ethnographic cultural heritage site in Francos. The Mámoa de Veigachá 05 represents a different chapter of the local past as a Level II archaeological cultural heritage site. Eira de hórreos and Muíño de Adelino Blanco share the ethnographic classification, while the Mámoa is classified as Level II archaeological heritage.

The Felo of Maceda belongs to the rural Entroido tradition of Ourense. For thematic cultural planning, artistic, ethnographic and archaeological heritage can be considered as separate reasons to visit. Landscape and Watercourse

The landscape in the immediate surroundings includes several named hills. The hill Alto do Rodicio is located near Francos, as is the hill Alto da Viuveza. The hill Monte de Cubreiro is also located nearby. Each of the three hills has its own name and lies in the vicinity of Francos.

The Ponte de Francos offers another type of connection with the landscape: it is a small bridge over the Maceda River near Francos. Castaños de Francos refers in Maceda to an area with large, old chestnut trees. The named landscape features therefore range from hills and a river crossing to an explicitly designated chestnut area. Various destinations are also located outside the immediately local heritage sites, in different spatial areas. The Os Milagros Monastery is located near Francos. The Parque Ansuiña is also in this immediate vicinity. Several culturally oriented institutions are located in the wider regional surroundings of Francos: the Museo Arqueolóxico, Manuel Márquez. Galería de Arte and the Museo Arqueológico Provincial. Museums, gallery, monastery and park thus offer different emphases ranging from cultural history and art to open spaces.
