Ordes: Camiño Inglés, Riverside and Culture

In Ordes, the Roteiro do Río Mercurín is about 15 kilometres long and takes approximately four and a half hours; the full route is moderately difficult, while shorter variants are easy.

A directly assigned destination is Santa Cruz Santa Cruz De Montaos. Other destinations at the same level are O Milladoiro, Rianxo, Bergantiños, Culleredo, Teixeiro, Vilarrodís and Arriba.

Nature and Trails

The Paseo Ramiro Recouso is a riverside recreational area in the centre of Ordes. It has less than one kilometre of riverside paths, wooden walkways and bridges over the Mercurín. At the Paseo Ramiro Recouso, picnic tables are located next to the children's playground and further into the natural area. The Río Tambre area in Ordes is designated as a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network.

The Ruta San Paio Buscás–Poulo follows traditional paths through oak forests, meadows, eucalyptus stands, fields enclosed by traditional hedges and across two streams.

Pilgrimage Route and Local History

The Ruta San Paio Buscás–Poulo shares part of its route with the Camiño Inglés. Within the Terras da Comarca de Ordes destination, the Camiño Inglés passes through the municipalities of Ordes and Oroso. The parish church Igrexa Parroquial de San Paio de Buscás is located on the English Way.

A Roman-era bridge that formed part of the Via XX has been preserved in Ordes. At the Casa na que se aloxou Felipe II, stone inscriptions indicate that Felipe II spent one night there in 1554.

Culture and Historic Sites

The Mostra do traxe Juanjo Linares is located at Rúa da Feira 5 in Ordes and comprises a collection of more than 1,000 traditional costumes. About 260 items are displayed in the Mostra, predominantly traditional costumes from around the world; the largest proportion consists of costumes from Spain's various autonomous communities. The Mostra do traxe Juanjo Linares is open every day except Mondays from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00; on Sundays and public holidays, it is closed in the afternoon.

The former A Pontraga railway station was built in 1943 on the original Zamora–A Coruña railway line between Santiago and A Coruña. The station building was designed by the architect Ramón Cortázar de Urruzola and modelled on the station in Azpeitia. Railway remnants have been preserved in the area of A Pontraga station, including a rusty signal, several posts, wagon wheels and remains of a set of points.

The Pazo de Codeseda was founded in the 17th century by Don Domingo Rodríguez de Verea e Aguiar and his wife, Dona María López de Verea. The Pazo de Codeseda is privately owned and not open to the public. The main façade faces the road and has a balcony on sturdy corbels with a carved-stone balustrade.

The DesOrdes Creativas Festival transforms abandoned or unused spaces into new, colourful places for community use and is considered a large public, free open-air museum.

Markets

The Praza de Abastos mainly serves the sale and marketing of natural, local and other food products. The Mercadiño dos Mércores takes place at Campo da Feira in the centre of Ordes from 08:00 to 14:00.
