Hiking between O Milladoiro and Ames
The Senda Verde is a 12-kilometre linear hiking trail of moderate difficulty. It connects the town centres of O Milladoiro and Bertamiráns. Its route follows paths and new forest tracks through areas of interesting cultural, historical and scenic value. Its linear character distinguishes it from the circular trails that lead to other specific destinations within the municipality of Ames.
Also located in the municipality of Ames is the 7-kilometre Ruta de Riamonte. This circular trail is of moderate difficulty and leads to the ethnographic mill complex of Riamonte. The Ruta do Andoriña is shorter, at 5.2 kilometres, and has a low difficulty level. It follows the course of a small stream and starts and ends at Tapia Beach. Current trail conditions can be checked before setting out on a hike. Length, route type and difficulty level can be taken into account when preparing a tour. Transport timetables can also be checked in advance and adjusted if necessary when travelling to hiking trails.
The various Camiños da Saúde routes pass through notable points in O Milladoiro and Bertamiráns. Their routes are adapted to areas frequently used by local residents.
Culture and Historical Traces
The Capela da Madalena has a long documented history: the oldest reference discovered to date dates from 1539. Its façade and bell tower feature Baroque design. The chapel grounds also contain two crosses. One depicts Christ crucified on the front and the Pietà on the back. This cross was restored in 2004 and returned to its original location.
A Madalena is scheduled to take place in O Milladoiro on 2, 3 and 4 August. The Casa da Cultura do Milladoiro is one of the venues in Ames belonging to the Rede Galega de Teatros e Auditorios network. For events, dates and start times should be checked for updates before travelling. The opening hours of a Casa da Cultura can also be checked before visiting.
