Miño: Beaches, Waterfalls and Historic Buildings

Miño combines protected beaches along the English Way with riverside paths, waterfalls, historic buildings and a traditional feira. Playa Grande de Miño is a 1,400-metre-long fine-sand beach with Blue Flag status. Playa Pequena de Miño – A Ribeira measures 700 metres, is also protected, lies along the English Way and likewise has Blue Flag status.

Coast and Marshes

Playa Grande de Miño has seven accessibility-adapted access points. Each access point has a suitably adapted car park and signage. A pilgrims’ hostel is located in the immediate vicinity of Playa Grande de Miño, opposite the marshes of the Río Baxoi. The beach, marshland and English Way are thus situated within a closely defined coastal area.

Nature and Paths

The Senda dos Sentidos runs in a straight line for just over one kilometre through the Betanzos-Mandeo ZEC special protected area. Four natural viewpoints offer views of the Ría de Betanzos. The route is characterised by its straight alignment and fixed viewpoints.

A 3-kilometre-long footpath leads upstream to the Fervenza do Río Xarío as far as the junction with the English Way; several waterfalls and cascades lie along the way. The route to the Fervenzas do Río Medio begins on the CP-4804 road at Ponte do Porco, and access to the waterfalls is signposted. The Ruta Molinos do río Medio is a short, straight route located entirely within the parish of Callobre. Route lengths, path layouts and signposting are concrete points of reference when preparing excursions, alongside up-to-date information on path conditions. Before setting out on a hike, current path conditions and the signposting to the access points should be checked, as routes have different starting points and layouts.

History and Architectural Heritage

The medieval single-arch Ponte Baxoi bridge was built in the 14th century on the orders of Fernán Pérez de Andrade. In Ponte do Porco stands the Antigua Fábrica de Curtidos, dating from 1806 and featuring traditional building materials. Also in Ponte do Porco is the Monumento a la Casa de los Andrade, a modern cross from 1962 honouring Fernán Pérez de Andrade «O Bo». The bridge, factory and cross represent three different points in architectural history.

Feira da Cebola Chata

The Feira da Cebola Chata de Miño takes place annually on the first weekend of August and has been celebrated continuously since 1999. The festival includes cooking workshops, tastings, food and drink pairings, and recipe competitions. For events, the specific dates should be checked before travelling.
