If you follow the third section of the Camino por la Ría de Muros-Noia, your route takes you through Brión de Arriba. After crossing Brión de Arriba, the route continues into the area known as Monte do Carboeiro.

The route description therefore explicitly names both the place crossed and the adjoining landscape area. Brión de Arriba appears in the section as a waypoint in its own right before the route continues into the Monte do Carboeiro area.

Landscape

At 531 metres, Monte Tremuzo is the highest elevation in the municipality of Outes. Monte Tremuzo offers panoramic views of the Ría de Muros e Noia.

The elevation places Monte Tremuzo within the municipality of Outes, while the view from there encompasses the landscape of the Ría de Muros e Noia. Thus, the same location combines a specific elevation with a view extending across the wider landscape.

Monte da Pena is a mountain in the surroundings of Brión de Arriba. Monte Mira is also a mountain in the surroundings of Brión de Arriba. Monte Diraite is likewise a mountain in this area. Isla Quiebra is an island in the surroundings of Brión de Arriba.

The named landscape features do not all take the same form: in addition to the mountains Monte da Pena, Monte Mira and Monte Diraite, Isla Quiebra is also one of the named places in the surroundings of Brión de Arriba. The geographical classification remains tied to each individual name.

Culture

Thirteen castros have been documented in Outes; one of them is Castro de Brión in the parish of San Xoán de Roo. Castro de Brión has an oval ground plan and measures 135 metres by 100 metres. The castro has three superimposed platforms and is surrounded by defensive walls.

Castro de Brión lies on the eastern slopes of Monte Tremuzo. The castro is 1,000 metres from the present-day coast, in a valley overlooking Lancaño Bay. Lancaño Bay is formed by the Tins River in Serra de Outes.

The location connects several precisely named reference points: the eastern slopes of Monte Tremuzo, the present-day coast, the valley and Lancaño Bay. The Tins River, which forms the bay in Serra de Outes, is also associated with this bay.

The Museo da memoria mariñeira is a museum in the wider surrounding region of Brión de Arriba. Castro de Baroña is a castle there, while Pazo do Cotón is located there as a palace. The Centro Arqueolóxico do Barbanza, a museum, is also situated in the wider surrounding region.

Different cultural sites therefore come together in the wider surrounding region: the Museo da memoria mariñeira and the Centro Arqueolóxico do Barbanza as museums, Castro de Baroña as a castle and Pazo do Cotón as a palace. Each of these places remains identifiable by its own name and function.
