Beres – Castro de Beres, Route 2 and Fervenza

Culture and heritage

Castro de Beres is an Iron Age settlement with a circular croa measuring approximately 55 metres in diameter. From Castro de Beres, there are views of the summit of Monte Neme to the north and Monte Faro de Brantuas to the west.

El Ciprianillo de Beres is a manuscript from the mid-19th century written by Rafael Ares y Torres. It contains extensive information about the folk culture of the Bergantiños region. Castro de Beres was a source of poetic inspiration for Eduardo Pondal. A local legend tells that a shiny golden chair is buried in Castro de Beres.

Route and regional sites

Route 2, “Da Outrabanda a Corcoesto por Beres”, leads from Pazo do Bosque, the former administrative seat of the municipality, to the gold mines of Corcoesto, which were already being exploited in Roman times. The route includes a visit to a stone-craft workshop. It also encompasses the traditional pilgrimage of Santa Mariña do Remuíño.

In the area around Beres, Anxo Cousillas Bermúdez is a self-taught artist who works mainly with wood and stone. In the area around Beres, Santa Mariña do Remuíño is considered one of the most important ethnocultural sites in Cabana de Bergantiños.

In the area around Beres is the small rural Baroque chapel of Capela de Santa Margarida de Baneira. Near Capela de Santa Margarida de Baneira, in the area around Beres, there is a stone spring believed to have healing properties.

Nature

There is no signposted path to Fervenza do Rego de Santa Margarida; the descent to the cascade is difficult. You can reach Fervenza do Rego de Santa Margarida via the CP-1405 from Beres in the direction of Corcoesto. On the road before Corcoesto, Fervenza do Rego de Santa Margarida is visible at a sharp left-hand bend.

In the area around Beres, after the junction at Beres, a right-hand turn on the LC-423 leads to Igrexa de San Pedro Silvarredonda. In the area around Beres, Capela de Santa Margarida de Baneira can be reached via the road towards Baneira and Corcoesto, after passing Beres and Silvarredonda.

The spatial orientation follows from the road routes mentioned: the cascade lies on the route from Beres towards Corcoesto, while the turn-off to Igrexa de San Pedro Silvarredonda is on the LC-423 after the junction at Beres. The road to the chapel runs towards Baneira and Corcoesto after passing Beres and Silvarredonda; the stone spring is near the chapel.
