Discover Membrío: Trails, Nature and Culture

The Camino Natural del Tajo runs through Membrío. The Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña (FEDME) has certified it as the GR-113 long-distance hiking trail. For planning purposes, the trails can be distinguished by route length, course and starting point.

Hiking and Trails

The PR-CC 92 Pantano de la Jabalina hiking trail is easy, almost completely flat along its entire route and 16.6 kilometres long. The combination of the difficulty rating, flat terrain and precise length provides three different points of reference when comparing the scope of a hike.

The PR-CC 91 El Candil hiking trail begins at Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Membrío and leads to Charca de la Clavería. For planning your day, you can compare the route characteristics of the PR-CC 92 with the stated start and end points of the PR-CC 91.

Culture

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia was built in the 18th century from ashlar and rubble masonry. The Ermita de San Bernabé is a small rock-hewn chapel with a single nave, decorative paintings, religious images, a saint's niche and an attached altar.

At the Minas de El Salor, you can see workers' barracks, an ore transport route used by carts, a mine entrance and a washing facility. The celebration in honour of Membrío's patron saint, Nuestra Señora de Gracia, takes place on 15 August. These different cultural points of interest can be considered separately when planning your trip.

On the PR-CC 91 El Candil, you can observe griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, kites, ravens, red deer, foxes and wild boar; there are also crane feeding stations. The Embalse del Cementerio is a fishing area where carp and barbel are caught.

The topics can be clearly distinguished from one another: trails and observations focus on the landscape and wildlife, while the church, chapel, mining remains and festival offer a cultural perspective.
