Gargüera: Hiking Trails, Springs and Historic Buildings

Gargüera combines hiking trails, waterside sites and historic buildings. One specific way to access the landscape is the Colada de los Majadales, a 7.5-kilometre linear local hiking trail. It begins on Calle Las Eras, passes vineyards and fig orchards, and then continues through the Dehesa pastureland. There are two springs along the route. The trail also crosses the Arroyo Rabanillo, which is surrounded by ash trees, oaks, poplars and scrubland. The route is said to take approximately two hours to walk and to have a low difficulty level. The linear route provides a clear starting point, while the approximate walking time indicates its duration; together with the low difficulty level, this creates a specific description of the trail without anticipating other routes.

Water and Nature

A walk is possible along the Garganta de Gargüera; the watercourse is also known as the Garganta del Obispo. Three reservoirs lie along its course: La Dehesa, Las Navas and De Gargüera. Culture and History

Outside Gargüera stands the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, approximately 500 metres from the town. The church in Gargüera has a 17th-century altarpiece as well as carvings of Nuestra Señora de Rocamador and San Blas. Fuente de Abajo is a 16th-century structure attributed to the Arabs. It was built of brick and masonry and covered by a vault with round arches. The spring continues to be used for livestock and for irrigating vegetable gardens. Casas Caídas is thought to have once been a manor house; a coat of arms and a heavily damaged window made of dressed stone have survived at the entrance.

Summer and Festivities

The Piscina Municipal de Gargüera is a municipal leisure and sports facility that remains open during the summer season. It has an adult pool and a children's pool, natural shade and views of the surrounding area. The Fiestas de San Blas take place from 3 to 5 February and include a procession of the “escalabraos” in traditional dress. The municipality's patron saint's festival is celebrated on 15 August.
