The historic center of Sant Antolí lies on a slope on the left bank of the Ondara River.

Church and Architectural History

The Església de Sant Antolí has been documented since the 11th century and originally had a single-nave Romanesque nave with a semicircular apse. Toward the end of the 14th century, a second Gothic nave was added on its southern side. Since then, the church has had two parallel naves. The complex of the Església de Sant Antolí is very well preserved. Its landscaped and developed surroundings serve as a recreational area.

The church thus reveals an architectural history extending from its documented medieval origins to the Gothic extension. The original Romanesque nave and semicircular apse belong to the early structure, while the nave added later makes the architectural development of the complex visible. The two parallel naves are the defining result of this extension.

Castle and Architectural Forms

The medieval Castell de Sant Antolí was probably converted into a fortified palace during the Gothic period. Some walls and structural elements of the former palace have been preserved. The best-preserved part of the Castell de Sant Antolí is the stables, with several interconnected rooms. These rooms are divided by pillars and covered with rib vaults.

The Castell brings together different historical layers and architectural functions: the medieval castle was presumably followed by its conversion into a fortified palace. The surviving walls and structural elements attest to this earlier use, while the stables form the best-preserved part of the complex.

The stables comprise several interconnected rooms. Pillars divide these rooms, and the rib vaults define their roofing. It is precisely the combination of the sequence of rooms, the pillar divisions, and the vaulted construction that characterizes the preserved architectural forms of the Castell de Sant Antolí.

Surrounding Area

The castle Castell de Cervera is located in the area around Sant Antolí i Vilanova. The Museu Comarcal de Cervera museum is also located in the area around Sant Antolí i Vilanova. The mountain Suró is part of the same surrounding area. The summit Tossa de la Bovera is also located in the area.

In the wider regional surroundings of Sant Antolí i Vilanova is the art center Cal Talaveró Centre d'Art, classified as a museum. The museum Museu Comarcal de l'Urgell is also located in the wider regional surroundings. The summit Montclar is also located there. The summit Turó de Coll d'Orpí is likewise part of the wider regional surroundings.

The area described therefore includes different types of destinations: the surrounding area includes a castle, a museum, and the mountains Suró and Tossa de la Bovera. In the wider regional surroundings, Cal Talaveró Centre d'Art and the Museu Comarcal de l'Urgell provide additional museums; Montclar and Turó de Coll d'Orpí complement this regional landscape.
