Àger: Culture, Stargazing and Landscapes

The Parc Astronòmic del Montsec is located in Àger and is considered the best place in Catalonia for observing the night sky. An international Starlight designation confirms this classification of the astronomical park. The municipality of Àger organises guided tours of the Col·legiata de Sant Pere and the historic town centre. The complex of the Col·legiata de Sant Pere d’Àger comprises Romanesque and Gothic buildings constructed between the 11th and 16th centuries.

Culture and History

The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Colobor comprises a large pilgrims’ hostel and a manor house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The two buildings accommodated pilgrims travelling through Pallars. At the Parc Astronòmic del Montsec, there is a guided tour called El Ojo del Montsec. The Via Romana d’Àger is a Roman road from the 2nd century BC. Its name refers to a route whose historical classification is associated with the Roman period.

The municipality of Àger offers guided tours of the historic town centre and the Col·legiata. The Col·legiata combines Romanesque and Gothic sections built between the 11th and 16th centuries. Nature and Activities

The Vall d’Àger is oriented from east to west. This orientation creates opportunities for dynamic flying; the technical conditions are particularly favourable around midday. The Congost de Mont-rebei gorge and the Canelles Reservoir are suitable for kayaking on calm water in exceptional surroundings. Both places represent an activity that explicitly takes place on still bodies of water.

The peaks of Sant Alís and Cap del Ras are located in the immediate vicinity of Àger. Tossal de l'Osca and La Corona are assigned to the area around Àger. The castle of Castell de Girbeta and the ruin sites of La Pardina and Mont-rebei are also located in this area. Castell de Viacamp, by contrast, is situated in the wider regional area around Àger.
