Holiday apartment in Iran: Culture, nature and special routes

Iran combines sacred architecture, religious traditions, a mountain wetland and cycling connections. Associated with Iran are Sant Climent d’Iran, the Sant Marc gathering, the “Romeria a Sant Climent”, the Salencar de Llesp, the les 2 Nogueres route and the Pedals de Foc mountain bike route.

Sant Climent d’Iran: Architectural form and building history

Sant Climent d’Iran was declared a “Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional” in 1992. The church has a single nave; its nave is covered by a barrel vault and ends in a semicircular apse. Based on the oldest structural elements, the building can chronologically be dated to the 12th century. Inside the church, the single nave, the barrel vault and the semicircular apse can be viewed as interconnected architectural features. Visitors interested in culture can examine these elements together with their classification as dating from the 12th century.

Religious connections and dates

Iran is one of the villages that take part in the Sant Marc gathering at the Sant Salvador d’Irgo hermitage. The gathering takes place in the morning of the Sunday closest to 25 April. It therefore does not necessarily take place on 25 April itself, but on the Sunday with the smallest time difference from that date. In addition, the “Romeria a Sant Climent” is associated with Iran.

Salencar de Llesp: Mountain wetland

The Salencar de Llesp is a mountain wetland of around 30 hectares in the Natura 2000 network. This area can be reached on foot from Iran. For route planning, its accessibility on foot means that the Salencar de Llesp can be considered as a separate excursion without a bicycle.

Les 2 Nogueres route and Pedals de Foc

After passing through Llesp, the les 2 Nogueres route continues to the road leading uphill to Iran. It also crosses the Barrabes Valley and the Boí Valley. The route is physically demanding but technically easy. The technical exception is at the Camí de l’Aigua: on a short section, riders must dismount, meaning that this part cannot be covered entirely by bicycle. Planning a ride on this route therefore requires taking into account both the physical demands and the short section where dismounting is necessary. The route connects the passage through Llesp with the crossings of the Barrabes Valley and the Boí Valley.

Getting to Iran

The access road to Iran branches off the N-230 at the level of El Pont de Suert. From Gotarta, it runs along the Serra de Sant Martí and leads via Igüerri and Irgo de Tor to Iran. Those planning their journey in stages should first follow the turnoff at the level of El Pont de Suert, then Gotarta and the Serra de Sant Martí, followed by Igüerri and Irgo de Tor, before reaching Iran.
