Discover Bagergue: Culture, Village Character and Mountain Landscape

Bagergue lies at an altitude of 1,419 metres. The village is located in the southern section of the Unhòla Valley. The historic centre of Bagergue is listed in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Bagergue is known for its flower-decorated streets.

Culture and History

The parish church of Sant Feliu in Bagergue has Romanesque origins. It dates from the 13th century. The church of Sant Feliu preserves an old pre-Romanesque funerary stele. It also preserves a Gothic transitional work featuring a highly expressive, almost painful depiction of Christ. Sant Feliu thus reveals several historical layers: its Romanesque origins, the pre-Romanesque funerary stele and the Gothic transitional work belong to different periods.

The Eth Corrau Museum houses 2,500 objects. These illustrate the old Aranese culture, traditions, working life and crafts. The collection thus combines traditional customs with the practical aspects of life in earlier times. Just over one kilometre north of Bagergue stands the chapel of Santa Margalida. It is located on the left bank of the Unhòla. The Festa Major takes place in Bagergue at the beginning of August in honour of Sant Felix. The pilgrimage to the Santa Margalida chapel in Bagergue takes place every year on 20 July. After Mass, bread and cheese are distributed among the participants. The date combines a visit to the chapel with Mass, bread and cheese.

Paths and Routes

The path from Bagergue to Unha leads from the square beside Sant Fèlix along the Unhòla River. The route continues through shady riverside vegetation. The path between Bagergue and Unha passes near the ruins of Bagergue’s former grain mill through a scenic landscape.

The GR 211 long-distance hiking trail passes through Bagergue. It climbs along the Unhòla towards Lake Liat. BTT Route 17 connects Bagergue and Santa Margalida. It leads into the Unhòla Valley. A 4x4 circuit starts in Bagergue. It passes through the Unhòla and Varradòs valleys. The Bagergue–Còth de Varradòs–Saut deth Pish circular route is approximately 50 kilometres long, providing a specific distance for your travel planning. The routes differ in character: the path to Unha follows the river, the GR 211 heads towards Liat, the BTT route connects two named destinations, and the 4x4 circuit crosses two valleys.
