Civís: Nature, Trails and Village History

Civís reveals its character in its townscape: the houses are arranged along the slope and have pitched roofs covered with slate. This architectural form makes the hillside location an immediately visible spatial feature of Civís's townscape. In the former area of Civís, the Bordes de Civís were a group of huts used for agricultural purposes. As rural huts or shelters, they were used to store straw, manure and agricultural equipment, as well as to house livestock overnight. The Bordes de Civís represent the area's former agricultural use, while the slate roofs define the architectural form of the hillside houses and emphasise their stepped arrangement along the slope in the townscape.

Civís between Nature and Village History

The rest of the area of Civís is currently located within EIN Alt Pallars, which belongs to the Natura 2000 network. A large part of the area of Civís was incorporated into the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu in 2003.

Trails over Coll d’Ares and through Civís

Starting from Civís, the VV6 hiking route crosses Coll d’Ares along an old path that connected the valleys of Sant Joan with Pallars. For a different sporting perspective, there is the road cycling route “LA SEU D’URGELL - CIVÍS - ARS 10”. It passes through Civís and starts at Parc del Segre in La Seu d’Urgell. When hiking, the starting point is therefore Civís, while the cycling tour begins in La Seu d’Urgell. This results in two different starting points and two different route connections for trip planning: the VV6 with its old connecting path, and the cycling route with its start at Parc del Segre.

Festivals, Chapel and Historical Perspectives

The Festes Majors of Civís take place on the first Sunday in July and the fourth Sunday in October. The Festa Major de Civís includes dancing in the afternoon and evening on Saturday. On the following day, a solemn mass at 12:00 noon in the village parish church is part of the Festa Major de Civís. The programme thus extends from the dance events on Saturday to the mass on the following day. The ruins of the Sant Bernabeu chapel are also located near Civís. In the Spill of 1519, Civís is described as a walled village. For those interested in culture, Sant Bernabeu and the walled village represent two specific historical themes in the history of Civís.

Access to Civís

Planned maintenance and repair work has been completed on the access road to Civís. The access route supplements the route information: the VV6 starts in Civís, while the road cycling route starts at Parc del Segre in La Seu d’Urgell.
