Culture and History
Osor is home to Pont Vell, a stone Romanesque bridge over the Riera d’Osor, documented since the 15th century. Here, bridge construction, Romanesque church architecture, and a square tower with Gothic windows and battlements come together.
The parish church of Sant Pere preserves the southern arm of a medieval Romanesque church. This part of the building includes nine Lombard round-arch friezes and a double-splayed window.
The Torre de Recs is a sturdy square tower built after 1439. It features Gothic windows and preserved battlements. In the 19th century, it was used as a prison. The name Torre de la Presó also refers to this former use as a prison. This former prison use adds a later historical function to the medieval architectural history.
Five kilometres from Osor, along the road to Anglès, are Les Mines d’Osor. The ruins of the former mining facilities and the mine shaft are still visible there.
The local traditions also have established points of reference: the Festa Major del Terç takes place on the third Sunday in September. The Ball del Ciri is a traditional dance unique to Osor with very ancient origins.
Nature and Trails
Forest paths along Osor’s numerous streams lead to small bridges, clear gorges, and waterfalls. Water appears on these paths both as streams and gorge landscapes and as a spring: the Font del Borrell walking trail leads to a spring documented since the 18th century, which is considered one of the best-known springs in the comarca. In the shade of the trees, you can drink fresh water there.
The Ruta de la Riera d’Osor is a circular hiking trail almost 5 kilometres long. It begins in the centre of Osor and runs along the Riera d’Osor. Along the route, you can discover the watercourse’s most striking gorges, including the de l’Olla gorge. The route is considered moderately difficult and takes about one and a half hours.
Route 1 from Osor to El Sobirà, on the other hand, is a 20-kilometre out-and-back hike. The circular hike and the out-and-back hike therefore differ in route format and length.
