Crespià: Medieval Old Town and Fluvià

Culture and history

The old town of Crespià preserves a medieval character. The Fira de la Mel takes place in this old town every year. The Església de Santa Eulàlia is an originally Romanesque religious building dating from the 12th century. The religious building underwent significant changes in the 16th century. The Incarcal palaeontological site complex is located in Crespià. It is a European reference site for research into Lower Pleistocene fauna.

Several historical periods therefore meet in Crespià: the medieval character of the town centre, the Romanesque origins of the Església de Santa Eulàlia and the later changes to the religious building. The annual Fira de la Mel adds a recurring cultural event to this townscape. The Incarcal site complex also adds a scientific perspective on Lower Pleistocene fauna.

Trails

The Sender de Ponent runs along livestock trails. Its route leads to the ruined Ermita de Sant Bartomeu del Portell and then to the Ermita de Sant Miquel de la Roca. The Sender de Ponent offers impressive views from the Ermita de Sant Miquel de la Roca. The wall foundations, traces of the entrance and remains of two side chapels have survived from the Ermita de Sant Bartomeu del Portell.

Several structural traces remain at the ruined Ermita de Sant Bartomeu del Portell, including the wall foundations, traces of the entrance and the remains of two side chapels. The route then continues to the Ermita de Sant Miquel de la Roca, from which the trail offers impressive views.
