The Complejo Astronómico de La Hita is located in the municipality of La Puebla de Almoradiel and offers activities related to the night sky. Trails through the landscape and municipality
The Ruta Histórico-Cultural is a 4-kilometre route with a low level of difficulty that is walked on foot. PR-TO 28 La Estela del Gigüela is an easy, 7.9-kilometre circular hiking trail that begins and ends in La Puebla de Almoradiel. The northern Ruta Ribera del Gigüela is 12.7 kilometres long, also has a low level of difficulty, and can be used on foot, by bicycle or by car.
This northern route follows a riverside path and offers diverse opportunities for bird- and wildlife watching, including rabbits, hares, partridges, pigeons and foxes. The Vía Verde del Trenillo is a 25-kilometre former railway line between Quintanar and Villacañas that passes through La Puebla de Almoradiel. The Vía Verde is intended for bicycle tourists, pedestrians and people with reduced mobility.
La Puebla de Almoradiel lies on the twelfth stage of the long-distance route GR 239 between El Toboso and La Villa de Don Fadrique; the stage is approximately 24.7 kilometres long. A livestock trail crosses the municipality from southwest to northeast, running parallel to the Río Gigüela.
Culture and history
The Ermita de la Virgen del Egido houses the patron image of La Puebla de Almoradiel, while the Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista is considered a building of great interest. The Ermita del Santísimo Cristo de la Salud houses the original statue of Christ from 1766.
The Ermita de Santa Ana preserves a strongly Baroque altarpiece with Solomonic columns and rich decoration. Six bells hang in the bell tower of the Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista, some of which weigh around 1,000 kilograms. The Fondo Etnográfico „Río Gigüela“ displays objects from historic local crafts and domestic life.
The Puente Romano was moved from its original location to prevent looting, improve its preservation and promote public access. Remains of former water-powered grain mills have been preserved along the Río Gigüela in the municipality of La Puebla de Almoradiel.
Festivals and wine
During the Romería de la Virgen de Palomares, the image of the Virgin is taken from the parish church to her chapel. The romería is a one-day celebration held on the first Saturday in June. The Fiestas en honor al Santísimo Cristo de La Salud de La Puebla de Almoradiel are recognised as a festival of regional tourist interest and are celebrated from 31 August to 3 September.
The Fiesta del Campo Manchego in honour of San Isidro Labrador includes a pilgrimage to the Pradera de San Isidro. Local wineries and cooperatives offer wine tastings, guided tours and other wine-related experiences.
