Water and paths

Pareja offers suitable opportunities for a wide range of activities on the water at the Embalse de Entrepeñas. At the Azud de Pareja, there is a landing stage for non-motorised water sports. A three-kilometre-long path with street furniture also runs there. At the Embalse de Entrepeñas, the landing stage for non-motorised water sports and the three-kilometre-long path with street furniture are located side by side.

Views and landscape

The Mirador de Castilviejo offers panoramic views of Pareja. From the Mirador de Castilviejo, the Vega of the Río Ompólveda and the paths to Casasana and Tabladillo can be seen to the south, while to the west there are views of the Embalse de Entrepeñas, the Pareja dam and the centre of Pareja. The area around Pareja offers hiking trails that combine hills, Mediterranean vegetation and panoramic views of the reservoir. The viewpoint brings together views of the water, dam, town centre, Vega and the two paths; the hiking trails, by contrast, present the hills and Mediterranean vegetation as separate landscape elements.

Culture and history

Sections of the former walled area of the town have been preserved in Pareja. The Iglesia Parroquial de Pareja is an imposing 16th-century building that reflects the former power of the lords of Pareja, the bishops of Cuenca, and has three naves covered by rib vaults. The Plaza Mayor of Pareja is one of the most interesting urban ensembles in La Alcarria.

The Museo de las Brujas de Pareja is located in a renovated medieval tower and provides extensive educational and historical material about the Inquisition trial of Pareja. The Eremitorio of Pareja is carved into a sandstone outcrop. The three naves, the medieval tower and the sandstone outcrop each represent a different architectural form.

Festivals and local specialities

The procession of the Santo Encuentro and the Quema del Judas take place in Pareja on Easter Sunday. At the celebration of the Santo Encuentro and the Quema del Judas, Garnacha, a drink typical of Pareja, and rosquillas made in Pareja are offered.

Getting there

Pareja can be reached via the N-320 towards Cuenca; after Sacedón, turn onto the N-204.

For a trip to Pareja, you can assess a holiday apartment based on your travel dates, room category and cancellation policy. The themes of water, landscape, history, festivals and local specialities remain separate from this and can be combined with your own requirements. Water and the path at the Azud stand for an active stay, while the viewpoint, hiking trails, local history and festival traditions offer other focal points. Anyone wishing to combine several of these facets can consider travel dates, room category and cancellation policy together and decide how they would like to prioritise the themes.
