There are three developed and signposted hiking trails in the municipality of Cabanillas del Campo. The Camino de la Dehesa is considered a short, easy trail suitable for families. Its maximum elevation is around 774 metres; from there, panoramic views of the surrounding area and the Campiña of Guadalajara can be enjoyed.

Trails and landscape

The Ruta del Regadío reveals the numerous irrigation ditches and canals that carry the water. The “Rodeando Cabanillas” route leads close to the Canal del Henares, an infrastructure more than 150 years old. This makes it easy to compare different trail characteristics, landscape impressions and route points when planning an individual outing.

Other destinations in the same directory include Brihuega, Olmedillas, Gálvez, Aldeanueva de Guadalajara, Guadalajara, El Cubillo De Uceda, Pareja and Mondéjar.

Culture

Construction of the Iglesia de San Pedro y San Pablo was ordered in 1581. The ruins of the former Castillo de Cabanillas del Campo offer panoramic views of the connection between modern local development and the Campiña landscape. On the outskirts of Cabanillas del Campo stands the Ermita de la Virgen de la Soledad, which is considered very well preserved, is maintained by the local community and is regarded as a place of great veneration.

The Botarga Cabanillas del Campo is held annually on 3 February, the day of Saint Blaise; the tradition was revived after disappearing for more than 150 years. During the Botarga, participants are offered bollos with sangria or lemonade.

The 14th Carrera Popular de Cabanillas del Campo was organised by the Sports Department of the Municipality of Cabanillas del Campo and incorporated as a scored race into the Provincial Popular Race Circuit of the Diputación de Guadalajara. The annual Carrera Popular de Cabanillas offers adults a choice of 5,000 or 10,000 metres. Green Sire Golf Cabanillas offers outdoor golf in Cabanillas del Campo.

Nature

The cereal steppes of the Campiña are home to a dense population of great bustards. Parque de la Dehesa offers signposted trails, birdwatching areas and lagoons.
