Taucho: Cultural Heritage and Historic Paths

The rural hamlet of Taucho has been protected since 2005 as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of a historic site.

Culture

Basalt and volcanic tuff dominate the traditional buildings in Taucho; stone with mortar, wood, lime and roof tiles are also used. The buildings of the hamlet of Taucho adapt to the topography by making use of rocky terrain and thereby preserving areas for agriculture.

Traditional Canarian architecture shapes the townscape in the hamlets of Tijoco, Taucho and Ifonche in upper Adeje.

Taucho is home to a hermitage dedicated to the Virgen de Coromoto. The Ermita de la Virgen de Coromoto is a simple rectangular chapel with a gabled roof and a bell tower with a clock.

The Lavadero de Taucho is located in the area known as El Pedregal, at the beginning of Calle La Capellanía. It has nine individual wash basins made of stone and mortar. The Lavadero de Taucho was used for washing clothes and also served as an important social meeting place.

Along the path from El Moñigal there is a two-storey residential building with an access staircase to the granary, ending in a balcony with flat balusters.

History

The Camino de la Boca del Paso connected the town centre of Adeje with La Quinta and Taucho. It was part of the historic Camino Real, along which pedestrians travelled towards Las Cañadas.

Nature

Boca del Paso is a narrow mountain ravine; its name derives from the narrow access route for pack animals. In the vicinity of Boca del Paso, there are expansive views of the coastal areas of Adeje and Arona, as well as the entire Reserva Natural Especial del Barranco del Infierno.

A walk through the streets of Taucho is one possible activity for visitors.

Festivals

The festivals of Taucho are celebrated in June in honour of the Virgen de Coromoto.

In 2026, the 15th Ethnographic Days of Taucho offered a programme combining tradition, cultural heritage and neighbourhood participation.

As part of the 15th Ethnographic Days of Taucho, the guided route “La memoria del Agua” took place at 11:00 a.m. in 2026; customs and traditions were presented through staged performances.
