Culture
The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Luz is part of the town’s sacred history. It dates from the mid to late 16th century and has a later-added Neo-Gothic façade with a central bell tower. It contains historic religious works of art, including the image of the Señor de la Humildad y la Paciencia from the mid-17th century.
The Plaza de la Luz in Los Silos has colourful gardens; it is regarded as a historic and popular landmark of the town. The Festival Internacional del Cuento de Los Silos has taken place every December since 1996.
The Festival Boreal takes place in Los Silos every September. It includes participatory environmental and cultural activities, including turtle releases, recycling workshops, concerts, markets and an ecotourism fair.
The Centro de Información Turística de Los Silos provides information about the municipality’s historic and natural heritage. Guided tours of the historic centre are offered for groups of 15 or more; they must be booked in advance at the Los Silos visitor centre.
Nature
The PR-TF 53 “Los Silos – Cuevas Negras – Erjos” is an officially classified, moderately difficult linear hiking trail with a length of 5.7 km. It passes through Cuevas Negras and the Barranco de El Salto and reaches Los Silos via Calle Susana.
The Sendero de Cuevas Negras formerly served as a connecting route between Los Silos and Santiago del Teide and was later converted into the Camino Real, which connected Los Silos with Erjos.
Length, difficulty level and linear route format are three distinct points of comparison when considering hiking trails side by side.
Coast
The seabeds in the municipality of Los Silos offer opportunities for diving and snorkelling. On the Costa de Los Silos, there is a beach with a pebble beach in the outer area and a completely sandy seabed; it is suitable for swimming, particularly during the summer months.
Getting around
The TF-42 is the main northern access road to Los Silos; it connects Icod de los Vinos with Buenavista del Norte and passes through the municipality. Several TITSA bus routes connect Los Silos with municipalities in northern Tenerife and with Puerto de la Cruz.
The Mercadillo del Agricultor de Los Silos sells local products and is open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
