Nature

Monte del Agua is one of the best-preserved laurel forest areas in the world. On the coast of Buenavista del Norte there are natural pools formed between lava; natural saltwater pools can also be found there.

Playa de Las Arenas has an extensive rocky platform made of lava from the volcano of El Palmar. Shells of various mollusc species, corals from a depth of 50 metres and lizard skeletons have been found on this beach.

Salinas de la Tablada were used as natural salt pans in summer, with the salt crystallising as the water evaporated. El Rayo is a geological coastal formation in Punta de La Laja near Faro de Buenavista and can be reached on foot from the lighthouse along the coast. Layers of lava flows, separated from one another by scoria, can be seen there.

Trails

The De Buenavista a la playa de Las Arenas trail is 2.7 kilometres long and takes around two hours there and back. There is also a signposted trail of approximately 5 kilometres that can be completed without any special physical preparation and also with children. Short stretches, longer trails and fixed event dates can be considered separately when planning your day.

Access to Punta de Teno via the TF-445 is regulated because the area is particularly sensitive. Access there by private vehicle, on foot or by bicycle is completely prohibited on all days of the week. Bus route 369 connects Buenavista del Norte bus station with Punta de Teno.

Trails run along both sides of the Punta de Teno headland, which also has coves suitable for swimming. Kayak trips and boat excursions are available at Punta de Teno with advance reservation.
