El Sauzal opens out at the Mirador de Las Breñas, offering sea views and a panoramic view of northern Tenerife. The Sendero de Las Breñas begins at the viewpoint and leads downhill to the protected Costa Sauzalera.

Nature

A special botanical note concerns Punta de El Puertito: the municipality of El Sauzal is home to the only currently known population of Lotus maculatus. It lies within the protected landscape area Paisaje Protegido de Costa de Acentejo T-36. Cueva de los Viejos cannot be visited today because it is privately owned.

Trails

The Sendero de La Ladera passes several sites of historical and artistic interest and runs through a natural area with plants from the region before reaching the Barranco de las Mejías. For planning purposes, the descent to the coast and this trail can be viewed as different focal points between landscape, nature and history. The trail destinations also provide a clear thematic structure without establishing an order.

Culture

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles was founded in 1505 and is considered the third-oldest church building on the island of Tenerife. The Museo de la Lucha Canaria is a free interpretation centre dedicated to the history of Canarian wrestling. The tradition of the Auto de Reyes originated around 1934 in the church of San Pedro Apóstol.

Traditions

The local tradition of Bajada del Arco y la Cucaña dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. During the Bajada del Arco, young men compete for fruit, vegetables and bread decorating a wooden arch attached to a pole. The Bendición de los Panes de San Nicolás takes place every year on 10 September. The traditional Bajada Nocturna de la Virgen takes place every June, leading from San Pedro to the associated chapel; torchlight illuminates the route.

Products

Casa de la Miel has a free visitor centre providing information about beekeeping, honey processing, bees and wax, as well as the «Miel de Tenerife» designation. La Casa del Vino offers wine-tasting courses. Within the range of regional products, the two facilities focus on different subject areas.

These topics can be considered side by side for planning purposes: landscape and nature, historical traces, religious traditions, and honey and wine. The time references also differ, helping to distinguish historical origins from recurring annual dates.
