“Realexo: A Date with the Past” is an annual festival held in August to promote the historical and cultural values of Los Realejos.

Culture and Festivals
The Festival of the Holy Cross and the fireworks in May have been celebrated in Los Realejos since 2009 and are recognised as a festival of regional tourist interest in the Canary Islands. The programme includes visitor shuttles, exhibitions, processions, photography competitions, nighttime street festivals and a large fireworks display.
The Church of Santiago Apóstol was classified as national heritage in the “Monument” category in 1983. The First Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception was reopened in 1993, preserving its original structure. In the late 17th century, it was expanded into a church with three naves; the final construction phase, featuring notable woodwork on the coffered ceiling, was completed between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
The First Church of the Apostle Saint James was the first Christian church in Tenerife. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, its square and its grounds were classified as a heritage site in the “Monument” category in 2008.
The Gordejuela water elevator was built by the Hamilton Company in 1903. The island’s first steam engine was installed there.
Coast, Water and Trails
El Socorro Beach is suitable for surfing as well as other sports and water activities. Every year from May to September, it hosts several local, national and international championships in surfing, bodyboarding and longboarding.
Route 0-4-0 begins at El Socorro Beach, leads into Teide National Park and returns to El Socorro Beach. It covers almost 58 kilometres of mountainous terrain with just under 7,600 metres of uneven ground.
The Los Realejos trail network connects natural areas with residential areas and makes it possible to cross practically the entire municipality on foot. One hiking route described there is 14.9 kilometres long, has a high difficulty level and takes approximately six and a half hours.
Another route runs almost entirely along the boundaries of the Rambla de Castro Protected Landscape and offers views of beaches, pebble beach sections, coves and natural pools on the coast of Los Realejos. The different route lengths, walking times and types of activity provide various points of comparison for planning your own day.
The natural pools of Guindaste offer swimming opportunities in pools and cascades formed by earlier volcanic activity.
Nature and Views
The most important protected natural areas in Los Realejos include Teide National Park with 79 ha, La Corona Forestal National Park with 2,270 ha, the Los Campeches, Tigaiga and Ruiz Protected Landscapes with 510 ha, the Rambla de Castro Protected Landscape with 45.9 ha, the Friars’ Mountain Natural Monument with 25.7 ha and the Ruiz Ravine Site of Scientific Interest with 49.8 ha.
The trails in La Corona Forestal National Park extend from the mountains to the sea, pass through hills and stream beds, and connect neighbouring municipalities. The La Corona viewpoint offers extensive views over the north of Tenerife.
Rambla de Castro can be reached via the TF-5 motorway at kilometre 41.200; vehicles can be parked at the turn-off to the San Pedro viewpoint.
The recreational area at the Ruiz Ravine features, among other things, broad wooden tables and benches, drinking fountains, barbecue facilities and toilets. It is also the starting point for a path through the ravine, which has been designated a Site of Scientific Interest.
La Corona has a specially constructed launch platform for paragliding on a slope at an altitude of 750 metres above sea level.
Regional Specialities
The Los Realejos gastronomy label applies to quality products grown, made, prepared or produced in the municipality. It helps visitors identify, buy and try local products.
Regional specialities from Los Realejos include bittersweet white wine, Bonita potatoes, Canarian black pork, goat meat and locally produced honey.
