Tiagua reveals its distinctive character in two very different settings. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Socorro in Tiagua was founded in 1612 and, despite several renovations, retains its single-nave structure. The PR-LZ-05 hiking trail begins in Tiagua and crosses the Jable ecosystem, a landscape of organogenic sands rich in archaeological sites. The PR-LZ-05 is one of the ten restored and signposted short-distance hiking trails on Lanzarote.

Culture

The Museo Agrícola y Etnográfico El Patio in Tiagua consists of extensive old buildings that were used for agricultural purposes. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Socorro features a coffered ceiling, a polychrome stone altarpiece, a choir and a pulpit. During Tiagua’s patronal festivities in honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 2026, religious ceremonies, a procession and open-air dances are planned. Tiagua preserves the memory of the Toro de Tiagua, a carnival tradition from the central part of the island.

Trails

The Museo El Patio has a 680-metre rural trail, which takes an average of around 45 minutes to walk and is classified as moderately difficult. Highlights of the Tiagua–Caleta Famara hiking trail include the lava flows of the Las Nueces volcano. You can compare the different trail formats and time estimates objectively when planning your day. A signposted short-distance hiking trail and a rural museum trail each have their own focus for assessing the time required for an excursion.
