Las Laderas: Paleo-cliff, Trails and Archaeological Site

Las Laderas is a paleo-cliff corresponding to the topographic end of the Risco de Famara and completely separated from the present-day coastline. At its foot, two clearly distinguishable generations of debris fans have developed, transitioning into glacis in the distal area. The fossils in Las Laderas are of great importance for the study of Quaternary palaeoclimatology.

Trails

On the hiking trail from Teguise to Caleta de Famara, Las Laderas is one of the geological features visible along the route. Along this path, the Camino del Majuelo gradually descends across the slopes and offers impressive views of El Jable. Until the construction of the present-day road, it was a historic connecting route between the Villa de Teguise and La Caleta.

The paths maintained by the municipality of Teguise in Las Laderas include dirt and Jable paths. On sections open to traffic, the level surface makes access easier for hikers, cyclists and vehicles. The route from Teguise to Caleta de Famara has an estimated duration of approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Archaeology and Culture

The Las Laderas archaeological site belongs to the settlements of El Jable de Arriba. It includes buildings with approximately circular or oval ground plans, small livestock structures and larger livestock barns or enclosures, as well as stone accumulations resembling the typology of burial mounds.

In the immediate vicinity of Las Laderas are the Casa Museo Palacio Spínola museum, the Galería de Arte diVINO museum and the Museo Lagomar museum. The Museo Agrícola El Patio agricultural museum is also located nearby.

Surroundings

In the surroundings of Las Laderas are the Mirador de El Risco de Famara viewpoint, the Mirador Del Bosquecillo viewpoint and the Mirador Rincón de Haría viewpoint. Playa de San Juan beach is located nearby.
