Nature and Mountain Landscapes

The Barranco de Azuaje is located in the Doramas Rural Park and is designated as a Special Nature Reserve. The landscape includes steep mountains, rock caves, lush endemic vegetation, as well as cascades and pools fed by water year-round. The Caldera de los Pinos lies at 1,350 metres above sea level. Its circular crater with a funnel-shaped structure has a diameter of 300 metres and is 150 metres deep.

Coast and Trails

On the coast of Moya, Charco de San Lorenzo consists of pools set into the volcanic rocks, allowing visitors to swim without being exposed to the area's strong surf. The pools have different capacities and depths and include a sandy area.

The Guía–Moya route is 14 kilometres long and rated easy. A large stone balcony offers panoramic views of the north of Gran Canaria.

Culture

The Tomás Morales House Museum is a 19th-century building where the poet Tomás Morales lived during his childhood and youth. Tomás Morales is considered the most important representative of Canarian lyrical Modernism and one of the most important Spanish authors of this literary movement. Its collection includes a well-preserved documentary archive, numerous personal items and a valuable painting collection.

The Church of Our Lady of Candelaria was built in 1957 over the original chapel where the parish of Moya was founded in 1515. It houses a 15th-century statue of Our Lady of Candelaria, as well as a work depicting Saint Jude Thaddeus by José Luján Pérez from 1803. The Heredad de Aguas de Moya manor house was built at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. It has two storeys, a symmetrical ashlar façade, a porch, six Neoclassical-style columns and a central clock tower.

History

In the municipality of Moya, the surviving building of the San Bartolomé De Fontanales chapel dates from 1872; an older chapel had previously been built in 1635. Today, the building is not used for religious services. La Montañeta is considered the most important archaeological site in Villa de Moya and includes numerous natural caves where the Indigenous Canarian people lived.
