El Juncal: Ravine, Hiking Trails and Festive Culture
The Barranco del Juncal runs between large, sharply cut rock cliffs. El Juncal can be discovered from several perspectives. When comparing holiday apartments in El Juncal, you can consider these aspects separately and plan accordingly.
Hiking and Trails
The El Juncal de Tejeda–Las Ñameritas forest track is part of the hiking trail network in the Inagua Integral Nature Reserve that is open from October to June. Because the entire protected area is classified as a high forest-fire-risk zone, hiking on the trails of the Inagua Integral Nature Reserve, including the El Juncal de Tejeda–Las Ñameritas forest track, is prohibited from 1 July through and including 30 September.
Bicycle use on the Ñameritas–El Juncal track in the Inagua Integral Nature Reserve is permitted only with prior official authorisation.
The circular route in El Juncal de Tejeda is 12 km long and classified as difficult. It can start either at the car park at the entrance to the village or at the end of the paved road near the ravine. The season, length, difficulty and the two starting points provide different reference points for personal route planning.
The El Juncal–Roque El Cofre–Taigüý–El Juncal hiking route begins at the church of Juncal de Tejeda. Its final section follows a path running parallel to the course of the Barranco del Juncal back to the starting point.
Landscape and History
From the end of the GC-661, an unpaved track initially leads downstream through the Barranco del Juncal; it then becomes a hiking trail towards Taiguy or Siberio.
The historic route through the Barranco del Juncal once linked Tejeda with Mogán.
From El Juncal de Tejeda, the archaeological cave settlement of La Solana del Pinillo can be reached via the hamlet of Ronda and the Barranco de Tajuy.
