El Chorrillo in Gran Canaria – Hiking, Culture and Holiday Apartment

El Chorrillo can be explored via a municipal hiking route in Tejeda. It leads uphill to the El Chorrillo district; its most challenging section ends at the Cruz del Chorrillo. From there, the route offers views of Acusa, Altavista and Parralillo. The ascent, endpoint and the three named viewpoints give the hiking theme a clear local setting.

The municipal hiking route is 13 kilometres long and has a moderate difficulty level. The combination of a fixed length and moderate classification provides a specific basis when comparing trails by extent and difficulty. The Caldera de Tejeda hiking trail presents a different challenge: it is considered very difficult and is suitable only for experienced hikers. El Chorrillo is one of the rural settlements that belong to the nominated cultural landscape area of “Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria”. These two classifications point to the connection between settlement form, landscape and traditional building methods, without separating the village from its rural surroundings.

The Virgen de la Milagrosa is the patronal image of El Chorrillo. The Fiestas de la Virgen de La Milagrosa are celebrated in the districts of La Solana, El Roque, La Higuerilla, El Espinillo and El Chorrillo in Tejeda. During the festivities, a large flower-decorated branch is carried from El Chorrillo to La Solana; a foam party then takes place. The festival programme connects the village with La Solana while also making several districts the setting for the same celebration.

El Chorrillo still has a small permanent population that is mainly engaged in agriculture. Some goats are kept in El Chorrillo, La Solana and El Espinillo to obtain milk and cheese.
